Ashigumo was once a member of The Ashigumo clan that thrived on Hinoe. Being quick with their speeds and sickles, they were quite the elite group. One day, Lady Toyohana came to the island to settle a life on the island, and the Ashigumo were wary of her. Thinking that she would wipe them out, they attacked but were thwarted at every turn. One day Ashigumo was injured and Lady Toyohana found him and brought him back to full health. This softened the hearts of the Ashigumo clan and they gave her great respect.

- The name "Ashigumo" was based on "tsuchigumo", a type of spider. It is a derogatory name coined by the previous Kamuhitsuki to mean a lowborn who sneaks through the reeds, though the Ashigumo tribe was not particularly offended by it.[3]
