Sakuna's parents were high-ranking deities who were loved by everyone, but by the time Sakuna was old enough to remember, they had left her and disappeared. Takeribi, her father, is a war god who controls fire. He met Sakuna's mother on Hinoe Island. His present location is not known.

Sakuna: Sakuna is Takeribi's daughter, though not much is known of their relationship, as he vanished while she was young, leaving her care to Tama.
Lady Toyohana: Lord Takeribi eventually became close with Toyohana during his time on Hinoe Island, and eventually after the end of the war with the Ashigumo Tribe and the first Lady Kamuhitsuki, they married and sired a child - Sakuna.

- Takeribi is based on Susanoo from Japanese mythology.[1]
- His full name is Takeribi-no-Mikoto, made of the parts "Take" - not the English word "take", but たけ, is a reference to a warrior god who contributed to the founding of a nation, "bi" refers to the power of a volcano, and the character for "Mikoto" in his name implies he is a higher-ranking prince.[1]
- Takeribi was designed to look like a war god who transcends humanity.[1]
