Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Wiki

Rice farming isn't as easy as changing the water levels every so often and mindlessly putting in fertilizer every morning made up of a random jumble of items; if you don't take care of your rice, it will develop rice disorders.

Rice Disorders

Rice disorders weaken your rice and lower the overall quality of the harvest. There are a number of causes, remedies and fixes, though for the most part your biggest worries are pests and weeds, which bring along the most common rice disorders with them.

You can check on your rice's status at any time by talking to Tauemon, choosing "I want to talk about the rice", and heading to Status, as seen in the image above. Note how the text turns red when a status gains colour. If it is red, it is harming the rice, and if it is green, it is beneficial to the rice - in the case of "Drained" (or "Dehydrated" in some versions), this means the fields were properly drained during the rice's Third Offshoots phase, which is a good thing. These status bars will increase the closer they are to taking effect - they can be lowered with the appropriate care or remedy.

Rice Disorders Summary[]

Most rice disorders can be remedied or prevented by adding the appropriate Remedy to fertilizer: Revitalizing Remedy for weakened rice, Eradicating Remedy for insects and mold, and Reducing Remedy to curb excess. Other fertilizer additives can also be used to increase immunity, kill insects, or prevent weeds.

Disorder Description Cause Remedy
Drained This is not a disorder; this is good for your crops! It means your rice was properly drained during third offshoots, which is good for it. Draining the field entirely during the third offshoots phase N/A
Bakanae disease A mold disease that causes wilting; this disease shows up in your next crop from the planting stage onward. Mold; Harvesting too early (summer) Eradicating Remedy
Cloudy Rice Milky white rice that has not fully ripened. Immature; Harvesting too early (summer) Revitalizing Remedy
Cracked Rice Rice that has cracked during the polishing process. Lack of water Reducing Remedy
Excess When too much rice is grown, leading to lack of nutrients. No drainage phase Reducing Remedy
Overgrown When there is too much fertilizer (ie root/kernel/leaf), leading to overgrowth. Too much nutrients Reducing

Remedy

Heat damage When rice grows improperly from high soil or water temperature. Fields too warm Reducing Remedy
Hopperburn A disease transmitted by insects. This disorder dries out the rice, lowering its quality. Insects and weeds; leaving ripe rice out too long Eradicating Remedy
Pecky Rice Disease A disease transmitted by insects. This disease leaves splotches, greatly lowering quality. Insects Eradicating Remedy
Rice blight A disease caused by mold, reducing quality. Mold; too much water (frequent rain, high water levels) Eradicating Remedy
Rice Stripe Virus A disease transmitted by insects or weeds. This disorder is connected to spindly, undeveloped stalks. Insects and weeds Eradicating Remedy
Salt damage When seedlings or plants grow improperly from excess salt. Too much salt in fertilizer Reducing Remedy
Sooty Mold A blotching disease transmitted by insects that impedes growth. Insects Eradicating Remedy
Spindly Either when stalks grow long and thin due to lack of sunlight, or if this appears with Overgrown, the rice is overfertilized. Lack of sunshine/Too much fertilizer Revitalizing Remedy/Not adding any more leaf/kernel/root fertilizer to the field
Underdeveloped When ears do not ripen due to insufficient nutrients. Lack of nutrients Fertilize daily
Wilted When the rice falls over due to weak stalks or strong winds. Lack of sunshine Harvest early

Where do I find remedies?[]

They are occasionally found in treasure boxes, but those are in limited supply - your best bet will be sending gatherers to certain Gathering Areas to obtain remedies. If you play your cards right you won't need remedies that much, though nothing can replace taking good care of your rice, and remedies are often difficult to obtain in large quantities - however, it is understandable to use remedies if there is simply too many diseases to keep up with. You can find the following remedies by sending gatherers to the following areas:
