"Haha...my humblest apologies. This blade may be of ancient and noble descent, but I myself have utterly no skill in swordplay."
"A human samurai. His full name is Katsura Uemon-no-jou Mizuki-no-ason Takamori. He is as magnanimous and jolly as they come, and loves fieldwork so deeply that he was often scolded by his high-ranking father in the past. As a deserter in battle, Tauemon has lost the right to return to his noble home and has since been living as a bandit.
Tauemon may not be able to assist in battle, or in manual labor, but his enthusiasm for farming and agricultural know-how will surely prove to be a blessing. After a certain point in your adventure, you may check the status of your rice at any point by speaking with Tauemon near the field and saying “I want to talk about the rice” to initiate an Agricultural Assembly."[1][2]
Tauemon is a mild-mannered man with an inclination to avoid conflict by deferring to people's whims. This means he is susceptible for being taken advantage of, though he is appreciated for his kind heart and supportive nature. While he struggles with blaming himself for things going wrong occasionally, he has shown remarkable strength in moving forward despite all the hardships he faces, and he shows a willingness to learn and try new things.
He arrived in the Lofty Realm after fleeing the Lowly Realm with Kinta, Kaimaru, Yui and Myrthe. They set out to find a safe place, eventually crossing the bridge of heaven and ending up in Mihashira Capital, where the main events of the game begin. As the game progresses, Sakuna can enlist Tauemon's help around the farm by either having him do certain work for her if she does not so feel inclined, or by having him offer detailed information on the rice crop, allowing her to take action on certain aspects of the rice.
Tauemon is averse to combat just as with conflict, though he offers plenty of help around the farm, and over the course of the game, his assistance is of much help to the rice, not to mention the emotional support he offers to others during hard times as a positive influence.
Story[]
Relationships[]
Sakuna: While Sakuna viewed Tauemon as a burden at the very beginning, they slowly gained respect for each other as time passed. Tauemon makes sure to refer to goddesses as "Lady" as a sign of respect, a practise that does not waver. The two have more of a partner relationship, as they often bounce ideas off of each other about how rice production should be obtained. Over time, Sakuna begins to rely on Tauemon not only to watch over the rice fields cultivation, but also to gather items from other areas of the island.
Myrthe: Out of all the humans, Tauemon and Myrthe have the deepest friendship with each other. They are both happy to spend time together talking not only of their travels and experiences, but about their thoughts and cultural differences, allowing them insights into the other's cultures and norms. Myrthe is the first one to defend Tauemon after he lost the first crop of seeds, and Tauemon is the first to talk to Sakuna about allowing Myrthe to run a school with her and the other children. They support and respect each other as not only adults but as individuals in a strange place.
